ROAR Virgin Cold-pressed Coconut Oil really should be the oil of choice for almost every application. First off it has amazing health benefits (see below). However, it also is useful for a wide range of jobs in the kitchen.
Coconut oil has a high smoke point making it great for frying with. It is solid at room temperature meaning it can be used as a binder and give body and texture to cool dishes – especially raw desserts etc.
Like most Sri Lankan coconut oil – ROAR Virgin Cold-pressed Coconut Oil is milder in flavour than other coconut oils. This means that it can be used in a wider range of dishes without overpowering your food with a 'coconut' flavour – for this we have beautiful creamed coconut.
ROAR Virgin Cold-pressed Coconut Oil is grown in the sun bleached island of Sri Lanka. The oil is produced from freshly picked mature coconuts that have been certified organically grown. The coconut meat is then passed through a cold process expeller at controlled temperatures to extract the oil.
ROAR coconut oil virgin pressed (extra virgin is a meaningless term in regards to coconut oil as the virgin press is the first press) and has not been bleached, deodorised, hydrogenated or heat treated – meaning that it has optimum flavour and health properties.
We strongly recommend you stay clear of non-virgin coconut oils that have been refined (also called RBD – refined bleached and deodorised). They will not have the same poly-phenols that give the coconut its unique and profound health properties. Sri Lankan coconut oil tends to have a more mild coconut flavour than oils produced in South East Asia – so if you are worried about a strong coconut oil flavour we urge you to try our oil instead of trying RBD coconut oil. This is for the reason that the refining and bleaching process can hide some pretty bad inadequacies in the product.
It is important to point out the difference between virgin cold-pressed coconut oil and RBD (refined, bleached and deodorised) aka copra oil. Virgin cold-pressed coconut oil that has been produced through the process of wet extraction (i.e. ROAR coconut oil) has been shown to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and increased HDL (good) cholesterol – making it beneficial for heart health. These benefits are not found in RBD/copra oil.
Virgin cold-pressed coconut oil is made up of over 90% saturated fat. However, this is no run of the mill saturated fat. Coconut oil is made up of Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT's) – other vegetable fats are Long Chain Triglycerides (LCT's). MCT's go straight from the urinary tract to the liver where they are turned into a quick source of energy, and have been shown to speed up the basal (resting) metabolic rate – which in turn can aid in weightless. If excess energy isn't used the fat from coconut oil is then turned into ketone bodies which are energy molecules used by the brain and have been shown to have therapeutic effects on brain disorders like epilepsy and Alzheimer's.
And if that isn't enough, coconut oil has strong anti-microbial properties, making it good for promoting general health as well as being good for as an application for athletes foot, psoriasis, dandruff and gum disease to mention but a few.
